3 am Henry Bins Book 1 edition by Nick Pirog Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

I've read everything I can find by Nick Pirog. I love his writing style, wit, humor, sarcasm, and behind it all he is just a great storyteller. The ideas behind his series are creative, and the stories are told really well, the pages just fly by. 3 AM lives up to the standard. Completely unique idea for a character, and the character is extremely funny and likable despite the odd and unfortunate hand he was dealt in life. I love how Henry makes the most of every minute. His chats with the cat cracked me up and were one of my favorite aspects. Also love Henry's relationship with his dad, and the lengths he's gone to in order to give Henry a "normal" life. Another hit as far as I'm concerned. As always, I'm eagerly awaiting the next work to be published... whether it be Maddy Young, Thomas Prescott, Henry Bins, or Oz the Schnoz! READ NICK PIROG, you'll be glad you did!!!

3 am Henry Bins Book 1 edition by Nick Pirog Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Henry Bins has a disease that has been named after him. It's rare and there is no cure. He wakes up every morning at 3 AM. He stays awake for exactly one hour and then falls back to sleep for the following 24 hours. So Henry has to cram a lot into his 1 hour per day.

He's had this disease since he was a child, so managing his stock portfolio, running for exercise, eating, reading, all the normal things that you and I do every day has become his normal.

That is ... until the early morning hours when, following a run, he glances out his window when he hears a woman scream and sees a man running out of the house directly across the street. He also recognizes the man .... The President of the US.

He manages to witness a murder, solve a murder and catch the girl all within a few weeks of one-hour time slots.

Unique comes to mind when I think of the story line. Yes, you have to suspend some belief .. that's why it is called fiction. The book is extremely well-written with likeable characters ... even the female detective that thinks Bins is guilty of murder. Add in a big, slobbery dog and a cat and the reader gets a frantic roller coaster ride.

This is a fairly quick book to read ... guaranteed to hold a reader's interest from the very first page.
I thoroughly enjoyed this quirky book about Mr. Bins, who sort of, not quite, is the witness to a murder. He then goes on to solve the murder, all while suffering from a rare and serious handicap. Think "Rear Window" with quite a bit more humor.

The second part of the book is a lot more serious and deals with him trying to find the mother who left his life when he was only six. The resolution ended not quite resolved, which I hope happens in the next couple of books.

If you get the chance to read this book, and you enjoy mysteries, detectives, or noir with a twist, I would certainly recommend this book! It's fun and a quick read that is jam packed with action! Just be glad you don't have to do it all in one hour...
The best quick read in a long time! Unique concept. Tight writing. Lightning-swift pace. Which perfectly suits a tale compressed into one hour per day. (A brilliant hook!) The plot is rich. The characters amazingly well-developed for a short read.

Splendid blend of suspense and humor.

Most books I read are reference or resource-oriented. Biblical. Theological. Sociological. Historical.
And I don’t eat a lot of sugar anymore.

WHOA! Why mention sugar in a book review?

Because every so often I just have to take a break from my low-carb preferences. I don’t diet or do rules. I eat what makes me feel good and is easy. Easy being most important…

When I need a break from writing or research, I prefer a quick rich story. Fiction. Something that makes me feel good and is easy. Between church services and critter-chores on Christmas Eve I wanted a quick read that didn’t require a highlighter or deep thinking. Enter "3 a.m." I loved it.

The dialogue between Henry and the cat (Lassie) is a riot.
A stunning accomplishment for the author. I tip my hat to a masterfully-crafted story.
I loved this book. The plot is distinct from other stories which made it instantly interesting.

The idea of only being awake for an hour a day made me sit back and ponder what I, myself, would do with that little time per day. How would he get his daily dose of sun? I guess he would have to take vitamin D. But even those in Alaska have solar lamps... does Henry have one. If so, does he sleep without covers? But that still wouldn't work, because, he sleeps in sweat pants and a hoodie. Then, his nutrition. Yes, he could get the protein he needs with the protein shake he has every day, but that would not be enough. He needs to have at least two meals a day. Unless he has a tube feed during his sleep. l was glad when I read that he had someone come in to fix his food and take care of things for him. Just wished he had her get a litter box and cat food sooner. Lassie went too long on tuna and the dirt on the patio.

I can never understand why a protagonist will keep evidence from the police and then use that evidence for themselves to solve the mystery. But then, there would probably be few (if any) mystery novels to read, since the police would have all the clues in order to close the case. For Henry, trying to solve this case makes an even more difficult job for the sleuth.

Having never had the capability to go to school or any other social event would be a truly boring and depressing life. However, as he said, he is a prodigy. He would have to be in order to do day-trading and reading. It was a good coincidence that his father was a professor so he could 'bing' teach Henry. His father going so far as to create social situations so Henry had an idea how the world worked in person. A bar with co-eds, birthday party, amusement park....

Reading this story was much like watching a comedy/drama sit-com. If you take everything literally, there are many things that just wouldn't or couldn't happen. But we fill in the gaps, or just go along with the story, which is what we do with television. Mr. Pirog's writing style was fun and easy to read. I'm glad I read it, and am looking forward to the next book in the series.
